July 2010
Welcome to my blog :) I have no clue what to write about because I am a blog virgin and this is my very first post. I guess I will start at the beginning of this year kind of like a Christmas letter that you get in the mail talking about all the happenings of the year.
So this has been quite an eventful year so far. Doug and I were both off work at the same time (that was fun!!) Doug because of health issues and me because I was laid off due to downsizing. Around the same time we found out that #1: We were going to become grandparents and #2: I am a diabetic. Talk about a midlife crisis! ha ha ha I am thinking this is effing crazy because I still feel like I am 18 years old! Many, many changes this year! Of course by now Doug is back to work again, I have adjusted to the new lifestyle of a diabetic and Keiran Kennedy Haskett our beautiful grandson arrived on May 25th 2010. Life is good again but I know this too shall pass so I will enjoy these moments of happiness while they last :) nothing stays the same.
So here I am unemployed and wondering what to do with myself. After a ton of research I have decided that I want to go back to school to work in palliative care. When I tell people my plans they look at me like I am nuts and tell me that it will be hard. I ask "What part of life and work are not hard?" I might as well enjoy my occupation and feel like I am contributing. I have started volunteer work at our local hospice and I really do enjoy it. There is sadness and grief but there is also happiness and peace. I tend to have a different perception of the transition between life and death than most people do so I can maybe see things that others cannot. At any rate I expect it will bring me a sense of connection and continuous learning as I go which I am sure I will blog more about later.
Wow, Chatty Cathy has more to say? Shocking!! :o LOL Well it is MY blog so I can ramble on and on and on if I want to so I think I will!! :) Summer is finally here and we have just come back from a visit to Calgary to see our new addition. He looks so much like his daddy that when I hold him I feel like I am a young mummy again (wishful thinking!!) I have missed my babies so much and it sure was nice to hold a baby again!
We had such a great time in Calgary and visited lots of our old haunts. Doug and I have a special bench in a park on a hill that overlooks the Center St Bridge. When I first came to visit Doug in Calgary he took me there on the evening of the summer solstice with a bottle of wine and gave me a promise ring and declared his undying love. It was so romantic that if I didn't know Doug as well as I do I would think it was planned by another woman! LOL Well we went there for the first time in about 4 or 5 years and when we got there we found this rock sitting right in front of our bench! It was so cool that we had to make a little video to share with you all:
So our visit with family and friends was wonderful and we miss them all when we go back to Penticton but we will be planning another visit sometime in the fall.
We have lots of summer plans ahead of us and I will be blogging about them all as they happen. I plan on being a beach bum as much as time and weather permits! I also plan on taking tons of pictures too and will add them as I go. I hope you all enjoy my rambling blog and visit here often. I love you all my family and friends. Be smart and be safe!
